How do ductless heat pumps work?

What are ductless heat pumps

The ductless mini split heat pumps consist of a wall-mounted indoor unit combined with an outside compressor. The interior head unit and the outdoor compressor work together to extract heat from the outdoors and bring it indoors to war the air.

For installing ductless heat pumps, it requires a small hole to be drilled into the wall, making them less vulnerable. Ductless heat pumps are more energy efficient then ducted heat pumps. You’re more likely to save money on your power bills when using ductless heat pumps.

How does a ductless heat pumps work?

In simple words, the outdoor unit collects the outside air and transfers it to the indoor units. Then the indoor unit distributes the heat throughout your home.

Ductless heat pumps extract heat from the outside air and bring it inside warming the interior air. This might sound pretty straight forward but it’s how it is. So How does this heat pump actually work?

The refrigerant in the heat pump is what makes it possible produce this effect — if you have a kitchen refrigerator, then you already had familiar with the experience with this substance. If you’ve noticed the coils on the back of your refrigerator, imagine those as part of an exterior heat pump unit which you can find in the outside compressor. As the outside air moves across these coils, any existing heat energy is attracted to the coil, because heat always flows from areas of high temperatures to areas of low temperatures. In essence, the refrigerant captures the heat.

As the heat moves through the system, it warms existing liquefied gas, producing vapor. This vapor travels to the interior compressor unit, which has a fan, then the fan blows out heat into the room and then we have comfortable heated air inside our home. You can relax at the comfort of your home and enjoy the warm room. You don’t have to worry about the electricity bill. You don’t get a sky rocketing high energy bill. It’s cheaper to use ductless heat pumps compared to other heat pumps.

Also, the joy of using a ductless heat pump is that the heat pump is reversible, which means you can get warm your house in winter and cool your house in summer for no additional costs.
